A great white, a juicy red and two tasty prices

Two great supermarket buys on offer until tomorrow.

Two great bottles on offer until tomorrow plus details of wider promotions starting (and ending) this week at the major high street retailers.

2020 Gable & Grace Chenin Pinot Grigio (£5.99 – instead of £7.99 until 21 September – at Waitrose)

While this South African white is unmistakably Chenin dominant, it still contains typical Pinot Grigio components (such as apricot, pineapple and kiwi fruit influences).

All those are attractively supported here by a touch of honeyed sweetness along with concluding citrus fruit elements that provide lively, bright and fresh acidity.

2020 Zurriago Malbec (£6 – instead of £8 until 21 September – at Sainsbury’s)

Malbec of course was originally a French grape. It has been used for generations in Cahors and for blends in Bordeaux (until largely superseded by Merlot). Nowadays though Argentina is the “go-to” place for medium-bodied, inexpensive Malbec like this.

It is a well-rounded version with balanced acidity and significant, but proportionate, tannins to underpin its ripe, sweetish blackberry and plum flavours with tobacco and white pepper elements.

Current offers and promotions

At Asda

A new promotion launched last week at Asda and is thought to end on 6 October. This subtle but stylish white, which we recommended back in August, is among the offers:

At Sainsbury’s

The current offers at Sainsbury’s end tomorrow. This delicate pink is great value at the discounted price:

At Morrisons

The promotion at Morrisons also ends tomorrow. Enjoy this off-dry yet nicely tangy white if you can get it before the promotion finishes:

At Waitrose

The Waitrose promotion is the third to end tomorrow. This Spanish red is one to look for among the offers:

At Majestic

Another offer of note is the ‘save 25% or more on Sauvignon’ currently running at Majestic – including this popular French version:

At other retailers

Don’t forget offers at Co-op and M&S continue for another week. See last week’s post for my picks.

Look out for our next post on Thursday when we review the wines in Majestic’s new subscription service.

  1. Really good to hear from you Michael and I appreciate your kind words and your taking the time to comment. It always helpful to know what subscribers think as it sometimes feels a bit like whistling in the dark, but you do a great job (especially via email) keeping me updated with what you think ….. Best …. Brian
